America is the name of a whole continent. United States of America means that the United States belongs to America and NOT that America belongs to the United States. So, next time you want to refer to The United States of America, you can do it as U.S. or the States or whatever you want but not as only America. Gotcha?

Well this site doesn't let me post the rest of my comment, but here it is on wikipeda.
This has little to do with the topic, however, it is evidence that the US always wants to be the special, and that other Eng-speaking countries don't necessary follow whatever the US says or does.
The most important point is to do NOT call the United States by the continent's name. Those who only repeat what their hear, need to understand that the US is located in the "northern" part of America. Ignoring that is offensive in other American countries.

It does exactly explain that America truly is not just the country of United States but does include both North and South America! You know, I don’t care what they are! It includes all 35 countries of the New World!

The America is no way wrong. However it shouldn't be used as a plural for some invented continents. It sould be used as a socio-economical and political and cultural division between the regions of America. Latin A and Northen A (or Anglo America). And North A, Central A, Antilles and South A.
This type of comments are very common, you can find in places like you wouldn't imagine. In a guy playing drums video, in a video of how the US destroys Iraq, in a video about hamburgers, in a video about minecraft, in a video about "can you find who is not [profession or status]?, in a video about the deep sea, etc., etc., etc.,
@Captain America is very familiarized about the xenophobia agains South Americans and Central Americans. Heck even Spaniards use "sudaca" or "sudamericano" as derogatory terms, if you watch football videos it is not difficult to find examples.
USA is NOT America(Canada) instead of progressing in thought you are regressing. Why do you think the US split the continent in two?

@Andrea No, but as I said earlier, most English speaking countries recognize the North and South as seperate entities. And for good reason too, they're two seperate landmasses complete with different cultures and biomes. Merging the two is a direct result of European ignorance. As I do not wish to associate with our poverish cousin, (the south.)
@Andrea America is not one continent, it is split by the Panama-Colombian border, (North and South). I can tell you're from a 3rd world south country due to the Spanish speaking countries generalizing America as one.

No, in this case [Amerika Syarikat - in the language of Malay!]
The continent is Malay is just Amerika and Syarikat is the equivalent of United States.
So in Malay it means something like Federation of America.
Second there is only one continent of America. The Americas as for most of the language is a cultural/economical division of America. For example "Las Américas" in spanish is the distincition of Latin America vs Northen America. In English it is used to reinforce the idea and justify the US = America.
And people been taught wrong is very common, an example of that is the mythical "Food Pyramid". Evedince of that is the that US is one of the most obese countries. It is not surprise that the US was one of the earliest -not the earliest, one of the earliest- to introduce the Food Pyramid to the world. It is also not a surprise that it affected and still affects the food industry.
Lol, according to your 1st 3 sentences, you cannot say that I am wrong because I have translated the English word America to the Malay language in Microsoft Word. It clearly said, the way you spell America in Malay is Amerika Syarikat! If you do not want to believe me, then how about you open up Microsoft Word right now and translate America from English to Malay and find out what it says for yourself! It never said just Amerika when I pressed translate.
Before you tell me anything else next, you better do as I suggested first! Period.
It has nothing to do with spelling, simply Microsoft Word most of the time just translate America as the US. You can try searching for América and it will give you the same result, why? Because Microsoft Word and Google Translator will translate every variaton of America as the US. Even in Spanish the second and third result are Estados Unidos and EEUU, which is not correct because the official dictionary only have one meaning and it is for the continent.
In Malay:
Amerika = America
Amerika Syarikat = United States of America
Benua America = The Americas or continent of America
As you said, “Second there is only one continent of America.” … I can say you are HALF right and wrong because there will never be a Worldwide agreement for the exact number of continents existing in the world!
So this remains very simple: America is BOTH 1 Continent and 2 Continents and NEVER will exist as 1 country only! The Americas (the plural) and Pan America are just 2 other ways of referring to AMERICA (the singular) which is the name of the NEW WORLD!
The plural will NEVER disappear away from the Singular and NEVER will make a difference. The Americas and America changes nothing because BOTH of them are always referring to ALL 35 COUNTRIES of the New World!
Side Note: I personally am FOREVER seeing and counting America as BOTH 1 Continent and 2 Continents everyday of my life!

There are not 7 continents it is just wrong and I explained why already. If for you North America is a continent the West Europa and North Africa are also continents. There are 6 or 4 continents not seven, not eight, not 9. Even worse it is to categorize Central Americans with North America which they hate specially if you are aware of the current new and the inmigration problem that the US has brought to Central America.
