America is the name of a whole continent. United States of America means that the United States belongs to America and NOT that America belongs to the United States. So, next time you want to refer to The United States of America, you can do it as U.S. or the States or whatever you want but not as only America. Gotcha?

The error has been to interpret what the Spanish called the 3 subcontinents as "Las Americas" when they wanted to divide it into the three sub-regions of America; North America, Central America, and South America. So, Las Americas is what it is, just the 3 subregions of America. English speaking nations took it a step further and used the Spanish word to name the two continents idea that they teach in the U.S. So for them, Las Americas or The Americas, is a two continent version of the one original continent. But the whole thing gets a twist when the English speaking tries to add Central America to become part of what they view as a North American continent. Why? Because when treaties and other things that the USA does with its North American partners the Central American region gets excluded. Why? Well, because when one tries to change something that was accepted originally as one continent, things get messed up.

I also traveled to Europe in the Summer..lol! Guess what! I was about to go visit the Casa de America and El museo de America when in Spain but they were closed on Sunday and couldn't go. I would had loved to see what they had in that museum. I did buy books though.

Hahaha look where I found you all...!Of course! Las Americas has been in the Spanish language since around the time of the Conquista de America. Is exactly as you have quoted it. Las Americas was the name to call the 3, three SUB-continents in America. The Spanish also used to call LAS EUROPAS, LAS INDIAS, etc. So there is nothing knew there except that now you know also know. Did you noticed that it was to call the "3" subcontinents? Not two continents as the USA teaches? So, what the Latin American countries have been teaching has not been tainted nor changed and this is why this issue with the use of the name of a continent by a country in the continent.

Latin American is a denomination to call people who SPEAK a language derived from the old language "Latin" not that they are from either Central America or South America or even from the North of America, North America, sub region of America. One thing that people seem to have forgotten is that when divided, America, into this concept of languages, usually the line of division begins in Mexico all the way to Argentina to denominate Latin Americans, and to denominate the rest in the north, USA and Canada, the denomination or name given to those speaking English in those countries is "Anglosaxon" Or in Spanish "Anglosajones" Thereby, the division which has been known in schools and according to languages has been Latin America and Anglo America. In spanish is Latino America and America Anglosajona. So, calling yourselves Latin American is not necessarily to nominate the country you are born in. Is due to the language people speak in those countries.

This is the point which I have been talking about. If the English Speaking world teaches a 2 continent version of America, why only include 3 countries,hence Mexico, the USA and Canada? When there are more countries to mention if one is to follow the English system of continents? The error lies on the concept that the origin of the name the USA calls itself is the actual name of the continent and in trying to divide it into 2 continents, things don't measure up. One can't have two continents and not include Central America at all. One can not sustain an error for too long. America was, has been and is the name given to a one continent and the not a country.
