USA is not America

Indeed, U.S.A. is not America!

America is the name of a whole continent. United States of America means that the United States belongs to America and NOT that America belongs to the United States. So, next time you want to refer to The United States of America, you can do it as U.S. or the States or whatever you want but not as only America. Gotcha?

America

How should I use the term America then?

Here we will show you some wrong and correct uses of the term America:

  • This is how we do it in America.
  • This is how we do it in the States.
  • America is my country and I love it.
  • The United States is my country and I love it.
  • America lost the Vietnam war.
  • U.S.A. lost the Vietnam war.
  • Here in America we love Mc Donald's.
  • Here in the U.S. we love Mc Donald's.

Please, note that this page in not about demonyms (gentilics) but about the way to call a country.

“You know that's only in the US world, David.”

Davidsays...

The facts say otherwise, payaso. Reality is a b1tch. You got nothing. I win this game show game.

Davidsays...

Typical.

Fabiosays...

A few days ago I heard a United Statian referring to 33 American dollars hauahauahaua. So 33 AMD instead of 33 USD! Can you imagine how stupid is that?

Davidsays...

How is that stupid? U.S. and American are often used interchangeably because they often mean the same thing. Please read some books and try to learn a little about how language works before posting nonsense. Thanks.

Michael E.says...

You know that's only in the US world, David. From the US, by the US, for the US, and trying to have everybody living your view, with your TV.

I fully agree with Fabio. USD = United Statian Dollar = Currency of the United States of Northern America.

Some heart feelings from what "Me" said are notorious: "Haven't you read literature about the media manipulation in the US (e.g. in favor of racism)? That is history of your country David. Read a bit more. This is not a school. Do your homework."

Davidsays...

Your statements are factually inaccurate. Typical.

Freddysays...

There are two kind of United Statians:

1. Ignorant and offensive

2. Knowledgeable and respectful

Which one are you?

Doubtful. In fact, not true... I would say you're "1".

Spain?? Brazil?? Cuba?? Huh??

Real and not dumb David(United States)says...

United States name is so wrong that their official name is "United" States OF America. And then you remember... oh! Hawaii is a US state! And the you find out is in Oceania. I am not talking about territories or colonies far from the country main boundaries. I am talking about the "United" part and OF THE continent part. So the country is "United" some federal States belonging (*cough*, *cough*... HAWAII) to the and in the continent of America.

Jackingtonsays...

If your native language had more influence, the words would mean what you want them to mean.

If your tía had balls, she’d be your tío.

Hahaha!!!

Pelotudosays...

So United Statians invade your territory with an army and your language with their media. What a scoundrel!

Michael E.says...

White collar criminals hiding behind fancy agencies. The rest are innocent Washington followers.

Americanosays...

Did you watch the Netflix film "The Trial Of The Chicago 7"? I had to stop watching it. The insolent calls for "Americans" and transcribes/translates it to "Americanos". It is a recent example of another starting decade of disrespect to their neighbors.

And then you have blatant guys like David saying that "Hispanic" people also use the word... obviously after the US repeats it a thousand times, then they can say it is "used".

Thieves!

Michael E.says...

Harsh, but very true dude!

Davidsays...

This is great news. The use of ‘americano’ to mean ‘U.S. citizen’ is spreading. In Brazil it’s the most common term for a U.S. citizen. It’s common in some Spanish-speaking countries too. It’s so interesting to watch languages evolve. Fascinating.

Mrs Anonymous Greatest Hits(UK)says...

Spain??

Mrs Anonymous Greatest Hits(UK)says...

Mrs. Anonymous (probably): Brazil??

Jacksonsays...

It is a barbarism to call a United Statian an "americano". Probably the US government is sponsoring the media business to do that, in a similar way they controlled their population against black brothers before.

Davidsays...

No facts. Just probablies. You guys. Typical.

Mesays...
