Indeed, U.S.A. is not America!
America is the name of a whole continent. United States of America means that the United States belongs to America and NOT that America belongs to the United States. So, next time you want to refer to The United States of America, you can do it as U.S. or the States or whatever you want but not as only America. Gotcha?
How should I use the term America then?

United States name is so wrong that their official name is "United" States OF America. And then you remember... oh! Hawaii is a US state! And the you find out is in Oceania. So the country is "United" some federal States belonging (*cough*, *cough*... HAWAII) to the and in the continent of America.

Did you watch the Netflix film "The Trial Of The Chicago 7"? I had to stop watching it. The insolent calls for "Americans" and transcribes/translates it to "Americanos". It is a recent example of another starting decade of disrespect to their neighbors.

This is great news. The use of ‘americano’ to mean ‘U.S. citizen’ is spreading. In Brazil it’s the most common term for a U.S. citizen. It’s common in some Spanish-speaking countries too. It’s so interesting to watch languages evolve. Fascinating.
