America is the name of a whole continent. United States of America means that the United States belongs to America and NOT that America belongs to the United States. So, next time you want to refer to The United States of America, you can do it as U.S. or the States or whatever you want but not as only America. Gotcha?

America is a name that is given to different things. This is done with many names. How is it incorrect? A lot of people say it’s incorrect to use America as a name for the USA. A lot of people say it’s incorrect because America can only name a continent. This isn’t true. America also names a country. A lot of people say that people who call the country America mistakenly think that the country is the whole continent. This is not true. In the Netherlands and the other parts of Europe where I have traveled I have never met a person who calls the US America and thinks that the country is the whole continent. I have also met many Americans. None of them think that the country is the whole continent. I think that some people don’t like that the country is called America so they make up a lot of false reasons to say that it is incorrect to call the country America. America is used to name many different things. Why do these people only complain when it names the US? It is not honest.
American is everyone that's from the American continent. The genitive "of America" is used to derive a long form name for the United States. As in

If you don't know the history of the continent of America try to learn it before you speak about a country using its name. America is not a country but a continent and the different States of the Union decided to get together to be stronger against Europeans like England and Spain etc. Then these United States used the name of the continent in which they formed this union to denote that they were no longer Europeans colonies but American from the American Continent.

So thankful I found this website. It will help greatly in correcting the misunderstanding that most ignorant people have of the United States of America. Just today I have shared the link with an International Airline Pilot that refused to acknowledge that America was more than just the United States. It's very concerning to me that an individual that is responsible for piloting an aircraft across many different countries in America refuses to acknowledge that America is many different countries. Hopefully this person's ego does not get the best of them and they do feel the need to educate themselves on the geography that they are greatly misunderstanding.

The name "America" to refer to the United States is purely informal, the problem is that some Usamericans claim that it really becomes the name of the country! but this will never happen, the country is called "United States of America" and the continent "America"; a case similar to that of the province of "Tucumán" (in Argentina) and the city of "San Miguel de Tucumán".

Do some of you honestly believe that the US government bribes US and foreign media outlets to use ‘America’ and ‘American’ to refer to the US and its citizens? I know that there are many maps that label all of the Americas as ‘America’. I have never denied that fact. That isn’t the issue. The issue is the false claims that it is incorrect to refer to the USA as ‘America’. It isn’t incorrect in any way.

We know that people refer/use the name "America" to be the U.S. There is no question and this is why the issue of the name of America is here being discussed. So we all know that the name America has been used to refer to the United States wrongly or not. That is known fact. However, that name, as you have accepted, is originally the name of the continent of America. How did the U.S. start using the name of the continent as its own name? We still have no evidence of the United States having been given that name by someone like Waldseemuller or the likes. Facts exists that the new world was given the name of America. There are no facts like it where the U.S. gets a name like the continent did. But we know that the U.S. is using the name given to the continent because it is the same name "America". If the U.S. would had chosen a different name an original to the U.S. hence there wouldn't be an issue.
On the last thing you called me, I will use the same train of thought you use for America. I will say that what you wrote as an insult I say that now it has another meaning and not the original that it was intended for. So You say words can have different meanings right? U.S. National Team
I have been busy traveling throughout America lately so I haven't posted much of what you love me to post. However, I did take a picture of what travelers see when they come to the U.S. thru the U.S. Customs just to keep the fact that we all know. After following signs that say "U.S. Customs" then we see lines for "U.S. Citizens and "non-Citizens" but nowhere was there a sign that said "American Citizens".
